What is the difference between a fuse cutout and a circuit breaker

Regarding the difference between a fuse cutout  and a circuit breaker, we introduce the similarities between a fuse cutout and a circuit breaker, a few differences between a fuse cutout and a circuit breaker, and the different protective effects of a fuse cutout  and a circuit breaker on the circuit. Let’s understand together.

1. The similarities between fuse cutout and circuit breaker: both can realize short circuit protection.

2. The difference between a fuse cutout and a circuit breaker:

1) The principle of the fuse cutout is to use the current flowing through the conductor to make the conductor heat up, and the conductor melts when the melting point of the conductor is reached, so the circuit is disconnected to protect the electrical appliances and lines from being burned. It is an accumulation of heat, so overload protection can also be achieved. Once the melt is burned, the melt must be replaced.

2) The circuit breaker can also realize the short circuit and overload protection of the circuit, but the principle is different. It realizes the circuit breaker protection through the magnetic effect of the current bottom, and realizes the overload protection through the thermal effect of the current (not fuse, usually without replacing the device).

In practice, when the electrical load in the circuit is close to the load of the fuse used for a long time, the fuse will gradually heat until it blows.

As mentioned earlier, the fusing of the fuse cutout is the result of the combined action of current and time, which protects the line. It is a one-off.

The circuit breaker is a sudden increase in the current in the circuit. When the load of the circuit breaker is exceeded, it will automatically open. It is a protection for an instantaneous current increase in the circuit, for example, when the leakage is large, or short circuit, or instantaneous Protection when the current is large.

When the reason is found out, it can be switched on and used again.

In short, the fusing of the fuse cutout is the result of the combined effect of current and time, and the circuit breaker will trip as long as the current exceeds its set value, and the effect of time can hardly be considered.

In terms of function, they are all the same, used to cut off the circuit, but the working principle is different.

The fuse works according to the thermal effect of the current. When the current exceeds a fixed value (different fuse setting values), the fuse in the fuse cutout will heat up, which will blow the fuse cutout to reach the segmented circuit and protect the equipment from being burned by the large current. Function, and the fuse in the fuse cutout must be replaced every time it blows.

The circuit breaker has different principles due to different types, but it is generally because the current is too large that the trip coil is excited, which is the circuit breaker trip. Of course, you can also manually control the opening and closing of the short-circuiter.

The same place of circuit breaker and fuse cutout can realize short circuit protection.

Circuit breakers can also protect the circuit, but the principle is different. The circuit breaker realizes the circuit break protection function through the electromagnetic release, and the thermal effect of the applied current realizes the circuit overload protection function.

When these two products are applied in real life, when the electrical load of the circuit reaches the load of the fuse cutout for a long time, the fuse will continue to heat until it blows. The circuit breaker is protected by overload.

The fuse cutout uses the common circuit and voltage to protect the circuit. It is used for one time and needs to be replaced after it is blown.

When the current suddenly increases, the circuit breaker will automatically open the switch when the current exceeds the load capacity of the circuit breaker. It is an instantaneous protection function for excessive instantaneous current.
