Different bypass in meter socket

The first thing to say is Horn Bypass. Horn Bypass is to be used in the acyclic type, single-phase output, metering equipment. It needs to use the crossover cable provided by utilities. If the external acyclic cover is removed from the meter socket, the Bypass cable can be installed. The short bus connector extends laterally from the line and downwards from the load side instrument socket nippers. The ends of these bus connectors look like “horns.” Once the meter is removed from the socket with a jumper wire in each phase, the current flow path is generated.

The second is the lever bypass, which is basically used for acyclic single-phase or three-phase metering equipment with a handle or lever extending from the right side of the meter socket. When the acyclic meter socket cover is removed, the bifunctional bar can be manually rotated upward to allow the by-pass rotor blades to engage to the line and load by-pass nippers, allowing current to flow through the meter socket and the meter to be inserted or removed from the socket. The second function provided by the lever is the jaws release function. By rotating the lever upward as much as possible, the spring-loaded meter socket jaws are opened to facilitate instrument installation or removal.

The other is the test block bypass, suitable for ring single-phase or three-phase metering equipment. After maintenance technicians perform instrument maintenance, the equipment is still in the energized state, and the meter is still installed in the socket of the ring instrument. Remove the “test block” cover, and the technician manually installs a set of jumper wires from the line to the load side connectors, which enter and exit the instrument under test. Once the jumper is in place, remove the bronze current-carrying level washer from each phase, when the meter bypasses or is isolated from the circuit.

All three bypass features allow utilities to temporarily perform meter maintenance without disturbing downstream users.

Question:

1What is the difference between bypass and without bypass of 20A 13J meter socket?

It is a function of charged if take the meter.

2What is the difference between a Ring Type and a Ringless Type meter socket?

The ring type meter has a stainless steel ring and the meter is sealed. The ringless type meter cover can be placed on the meter and the meter can be fixed in place. The cover can be used to seal the meter.

3What kind of material can be used in meter socket jaw?

They are red copper jaw,  copper jaw, brass jaw, red copper steel jaw, stainless jaw.
